Trip to Shimoda

I took 3-day holiday to a beautiful white sand beach called Shirahama beach in Shimoda, Shizuoka pref.

A typhoon had been expected, but Hallelujah! we were blessed with sunny weather for whole 3 days!

It was windy and cloudy, but it was perfect weather to enjoy beach coz I didn't need to get too much sun burn.
.
Water was really cool.

The waves were high, though, because of the typhoon. I was pushed under by a wave and my bikini came off a bit! So embarrassing!

My bf, who is 1.5 times taller than me, played so roughly that I felt scared coz I didn't reach the bottom and the waves were really strong. He tried to throw me and I had to escape quickly!

We took lunch near the beach where surfing lesson is provided. There were a lot of good looking girls and guys in this beach.

Shimoda Rope way. It was windy and scary!

We had BBQ dinner at the another branch of the inn. It was self-help style. Many guys working for this inn were quite handsome.

On the second day, we went to different beach called Iritahama.

Waves were much stronger here and there were many surfers. It was rocky, not so good place to just have fun.

We had plan to go aquarium for the afternoon, but Ale-chan realized he forgot ticket!

So, we decided to take a walk in the town.

We went historical places for opening of Japan to the USA around 19c.

In 1853, US navy warships came to the bay of Edo and demanded Japan to open trade with the West. Their arrival marked reopening of Japan after 200 years of self-imposed isolation.

Black Ships: Western vessels arriving in Japan in the 16c and 19c, a symbol of a threat imposed by Western technology

Ryosenji museum not only shows stories about Black Ships, but also mysterious union statues of Tibet religion and that part of man as a symbol of futurity in ancient times.

It seems Japanese men and female were bathing together. I thought sexuality was not that taboo in Japan as opposed to western world where Christianity prevails.

Shimoda became the first international port, it seems many Americans were friendly, but sadly, Japanese samurai officials drove away people who were interacting with Americans.

If they had been more open, Japan could have been more international country.

It is so sad that Japan is an island country that it was able to close themselves from international trade for as much as 200 years.

It seems Europeans, who knew little about Japan, thought that Japan was a quite advanced country. The paintings of imaginary Japan with some anecdote depicted an advanced society like ancient Greece.

Commodore Matthew Calbraith Perry.pngMatthew Calbraith Perry was a Commodore of the U.S. NavyHe played a leading role in the opening of Japan to the West with the Convention of Kanagawa in 1854 and is often associated with the Open Door Policy.
For dinner, I really enjoyed sea urchin, which I usually don't eat.

At night we also went to beach. People were enjoying fire works coz it was the end of summer vacation.

We luckily found two chairs on the beach.
That was beautiful moment.
It seems bats were frying.

On the third day, we went to the aquarium in the sea finally.

I was personally impressed this place.

There were a lot of shows and events.

We first saw feeding to penguins.
King penguins were cute.

Humboldt penguins are a South American penguin, that breeds in coastal Peru and Chile.

Grandpa penguin was 31 years old, where their normal life span is around 20 years.
He was the only wild born penguin there.

We had picture with them! They are so cute. They even make a line for us to take picture together. How kind!

Spotted seals's waving. So cute! They wave, kiss and hug!

Then, we saw sea lion and dolphin show.

Wow! How great!

Dolphin are not only intelligent but also therapeutic!

I feel they even tried to entertain people!

I was impressed by their kind heart.
